What is Wrike ?

Hi, I’m Kota Shimizu, a web director who likes new web services.
In this article, I’d like to introduce Wrike, a project management tool that is one of the well known in this field.

Wrike is a service provided by Wrike, Inc. headquartered in California.

Wrike positions its service as a work management tool, developed to streamline all types of operations, including project management.

Wrike was founded in 2006 and its beta version was released the following year in 2007.
Since Redmine v0.1.0 was released in 2006, Wrike is probably one of the well-experienced project management tools in this market.

However, in Japan, it does not seem to be a tool that has been used for a long time like Redmine. This is my personal opinion though.

Wrike was acquired by Citrix Systems, a major U.S. technology company, in 2021, and I think it was around that time that the company rapidly gained awareness in Japan.

In May 2022, the company received awards in various categories, including “Project Management,” “Creative Management,” “Enterprise Marketing Management,” and “Professional Services Automation” in TrustRadius 2022 Top Rated Awards, which are given to most highly rated services in 2022 by TrustRadius, a highly trusted international software review website.

The service is also available in Japanese, and the number of installations is increasing in Japan.

Below is the article that reports Asahi Group, one of the major companies in Japan uses Wrike.

What Wrike can do

Overview

As the name “work management tool” implies, Wike is flexible to handle a wide variety of business operations.

You could say that it is a no-code tool that allows you to visually build a database and intuitively create automation according to your work process.

The following is a brief description of the things you can do with Wrike. My impression after using it is that you can do anything you want, depending on your ideas.

  • One-click Gantt chart creation
  • Workflow Automation
  • Document Management
  • Visualizng tasks with workload, burndown charts, etc.
  • Project management templates for various purposes
  • Manage complex access rights
  • Reporting and notification
  • Work hour management with timer function

Next, I’ll show you some of the key features, with screen shots.

Templates for various usages

Wrike offers templates for various usages of business management.
These are from general-purpose templates to templates for specific operations.

You can see the all templates from the official page here:

Japanese templates are also available, the amount is a bit less though.

The number of templates seems a bit less than other project management tools, but considering the speed Wrike is growing, it will be richer in the future.

Automation Functions

Wrike also provides the ability to automate your operations. With this feature, actions can be automatically executed, triggered by status, actions, etc., on projects and tasks.

In the following example, I’ve created an automation that proceeds “comment to the related people if status remains “New” when deadline of task is approaching in 7 days.
